emergency world need

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant gaps in health infrastructure worldwide, particularly in low-resource nations, where access to healthcare facilities and services remains challenging. In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the Geolocated Health Facilities Data (GHFD) initiative to create a comprehensive database of health facilities worldwide. The initiative, launched in 2022, supports countries in developing Health Facility Master Lists (HFML) which provide current information on the location and capacity of a nation’s health facilities.

The aim is to ensure that populations can locate and access facilities for essential services like diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccinations, especially in emergencies. Through geospatial technology, the GHFD initiative also maps health facilities in relation to communities, identifying inequalities in access to hospitals and clinics. By 2027, the WHO database will cover all 194 WHO member states. The GHFD data has already underscored that the global need for healthcare facilities is critical.

Identifying the need for a health facility is a first step; finding a way to fulfill that need is where HWB comes in. Our modular facilities are customizable and designed to be rapidly installed in varying terrain and elemental conditions. HWB is connecting donors to communities in need and delivering solutions aimed at achieving global health equity.
